- The story covers a lot of chapters. The sections on the handout are the most relevant, but someone may need to do some story filling-in at some point.
- In what way is the story of Abraham and Sarah the real beginning of Advent?
- The story is nearly always told from Abraham’s point of view – and rightly so – he is the father of all the faithful. But it is interesting to consider Sarai(h) a little more.
- Do you agree that she appears disadvantaged at several points in this story? Retell those points in the story. Why is she left out?
- How do prevent this kind of exclusion in our relationships?
- How do you feel about her actions with Hagar, first in giving her to Abraham, and then abusing her later? Can she be excused?
- Consider the different references to laughter through the story – what is there about your faith causes you to laugh?
