For some of us this is a very sensitive issue. We may feel that cherished and received practices are being challenged. It is important to be careful and considerate in the way we talk to one another. The goal of study is to come to a better understanding of
- What the believers in the 1st Century would have understood from Paul’s words.
- What we can understand from the same words today, in our cultural context.
- Do you understand the 2 background pictures that were painted in the message – see the slides.
- Try to construct together a picture of what women did in the life of the NT church – in Corinth, Ephesus or elsewhere.
- How do you now understand Paul’s desire for women to be quiet and listen rather than teach?
- Do you think, on the basis of what has been said, that Paul’s practice applies for all times in all places?
- Look at the quotation on the last slide. How would you think this might apply to us?
