Women in ACTSion
Questions for Home Groups or Private Reflection
There are 20 or more references to specific women in ACTS – not all of them happy! But most give a glimpse into the variety of ministries (acts of service) that women were engaged in throughout the first generation of church planting and mission to all parts of the Roman Empire.
The main issue this week is keeping the men engaged! The reality though is that none of the ministries mentioned here were the exclusive domain of women. (Think ‘parent’ rather than ‘mother’) .The real issue for the whole series is whether there were roles which were the exclusive domain of men.
- From the first part of the sermon, discuss the changing role of women in the 20th and 21st Centuries in Europe. What has happened, and why?
- Is it inevitable that the church will follow the change in our culture?
- Are there areas of cultural change that we have obviously avoided – I mean as church in the nation, not just in our local church.
- From the 6 passages touched upon in Acts, which woman or women most impresses you and why?
- Whose ministry would you most want to emulate (copy, excel) – what is in your heart?
- What ministry that included women in the NT is not in Acts – if any. This is asked to make sure we have a full picture.
- From here we move to the NT letters – you might like to read Romans 16 before next Sunday.
