For Ourselves

Pray these scriptures over you life. You can also sing or just listen to the worship song.

  • Matthew 6:33 – Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

  • Philippians 4:8 – And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honourable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

  • Romans 8:5 - Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

  • Jeremiah 29:13 - You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

  • Philippians 4:13 - For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

  • Colossians 3:2 – Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

  • Proverbs 16:3 - Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.

Let Us Pray ...

Heavenly Father,
I praise Your name that I am a new creation in Christ and a member of His body. I thank You that He came to earth to die on the cross so that I could be raised up into newness of life and abide with Him forever.
Help me never to lose sight of that enormous price paid on the cross on my behalf, and I pray that Christ may remain the centre and the circumference of my life-focus, every moment of the day.
Help me to take every thought that enters my mind captive, so that it is not tainted by the ways of the world. Help me not to allow my attention to be diverted away from the things that are eternally important to the temporal things of the world, which are quickly fading away. Help me Lord, to focus on You as I wake in the morning, as I rest at night, and throughout the business of every passing day.
And Lord, I pray that the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart may always be acceptable and pleasing to You.

In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen

Adapted from: Knowing Jesus

Psalm 1:1-6 - Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

1 Peter 2:1-5 - So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation - if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

If you feel like you can't find your way back to God, remember there's always an open door.

At this point you may like to do (or re-do) the Resting Room

For Others

In the last 30 years the percentage of UK population that is Christian has dropped from 67% to 36%

Instead, people turn to other forms of spirituality to fill the gap.

The most prominent one recently is humanism, or the "me culture", where people are encouraged to connect with their inner power.

Let Us Pray ...

Dear Lord,

Thank you that You provide all we need.

We pray for those who have lost their focus on You. We pray for those who have replaced You with other things.

We pray that the world will return to a knowledge and belief of You and for a reversal of all the things that the other focuses lead to.

We pray that the world will put off the old self, corrupted by its deceitful desires and will put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:22-24)

In your holy name we pray,

Amen

When lockdown is eventually lifted and we can return to "normal" there is a risk that people will be tempted to over-indulge in their worldly desires having potentially been denied them for extended periods, even up to a whole year. We can pray that this will be minimal and free from negative effects and that instead people will flock to Jesus.

Pray for the world that people will replace the "me" with the Holy Spirit, that their focus will be corrected and that the balance with God will be restored.

Let Us Pray ...

Dear Lord,

We know you have ultimate sovereignty in this world.

We pray that you will overcome all evil influences and the works that they produce.

We pray against conspiracy theories, incorrect information and the spread of these.

We pray for an undoing of any damage done in the past and a healing for all people.

We long to see your return and pray that we may see an outpouring of your grace and power across the nations of the world.

In your holy name we pray,

Amen

Pray for forgiveness for the world, down the ages and into the future.
